String2HTML
String2HTML
I don't really like to write ä or í and the other uglies just to get a special character. And in addition to that it makes the text in a normal editor unreadable for humans. Thus I wrote a program to replace all the special characters in a file or in the clipboard. So I can create my files in the usual way and convert them to HTML in the end.

Rivals
You may say, hm, this guy never heard about setting a global charset for a HTML file. I learnt very late about it, that's true, but I use this tool anyway, because:
- also with a charset you need to replace < > & and "
- some characters may not be in the charset (I never had a look in ISO-8859-1 if that's true for the characters this tool replaces).
But remember that you need to use <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" /> anyway because a user with a different default charset as you have (eg Russia, Japan) will see only nonsence also for simple characters like abcxyz.

Usage
It's a Java program packed in a jar, thus you only need to double click on it and it should run if you have a Java Runtime Environment installed. Then some dialogs will pop up and ask you for all things necessary. If you prefer the command-line you can also run the program from there and it will tell you the details about the parameters.

Important
If you like the program you're very welcome to use it!
But remember there's no warranty and liabilty at all.
It is distributed "as is"! That means there's no guarantee that bugs will be eleminated or malfunctions will be corrected. It's just as it is. If you don't like it that way, hey, you don't need to use it!
Thus expect your harddisk to be formatted and your mainboard to be damaged. Well, this never happened to my computer and I use the program a lot!

Download
If you still want to have my program String2HTML you can download it.
